About This Quote

Henri Poincaré wrote, “Science is a way of knowing, not a copy of nature.” Poincaré saw science as an exploration of the unknown and that was very much in line with his time. In those days, scientists were interested in understanding the natural world as it was, not as it might be. Today, we still have a long way to go before we can ever call anything a “copy of nature.” While science may not be able to answer every question about nature, it does give us a reasonable idea about what is real and what isn’t.
